Cedar Hill Next: Comprehensive Plan Update

Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linkedin Email this link

Cedar Hill Next is a Comprehensive Plan update project for the City of Cedar Hill. You are invited to join the discussion about the City's goals for the future. We look forward to engaging with you in a meaningful and exciting conversation about the future of the City.

What is a Comprehensive Plan?

A comprehensive plan is a policy document that details the City's long-term vision and goals and outlines the steps necessary to achieve them. The plan is intended to guide growth and development in an organized, efficient, and sustainable manner. To do so, it looks to the future to anticipate trends and issues that could impact how growth and development occur. The plan is long-range in scope, focusing on the ultimate needs of the community rather than the pressing concerns of today.

Comprehensive Plan Update

While the planning horizon for a Comprehensive Plan is typically 20-30 years, it's important to review and update the plan in the interim to ensure the vision described in the plan is still the vision residents have for the community. The City's existing Comprehensive Plan was adopted in 2009. Since that time, many of the plan's goals have been completed and new opportunities have been presented. With extensive public participation, residents will create a playbook for the City that outlines the steps needed to achieve the community's vision.

To help us with this important task, the City hired consultants Town Planning & Urban Design Collaborative (TPUDC). After an extensive public participation process, the team has published a draft plan for public review and comment. You can download the plan below and comment through the tool below or join us at an open house to learn more and share your feedback.

Your voice matters. And when we share our voices and listen to each other, we have the power to make Cedar Hill even better. It simply takes a conversation.

    What is On The Table?

For the Cedar Hill Next project, On the Table is an opportunity to gather over mealtime-type conversations to build personal connections and explore how we can work together to make our community stronger.

We invite you and your families, neighbors, colleagues, and friends — old and new — to pull up a chair, share a meal or or dessert or coffee, and discuss the ways in which we — as individuals and as a collective — can, and do, work to improve the quality of life and economic vitality in Cedar Hill.

    Who?

People from Cedar Hill, from all walks of life, are invited to host and/or attend On the Table discussions.

    Where?

Anywhere! The conversations can be hosted in homes, schools, restaurants, places of worship, libraries, offices, parks, other community locations. Meals can be sit-down, catered, brown bag, potluck or a simple coffee - it's completely up to each host.

    When?

    October 4 - December 9

    Why?

We know that big ideas can spring from small conversions and that people invest in what they help create. For the Cedar Hill Next process, we are committed to bringing people together to create a more generous, vibrant and engaged community.

What happens after the designated time is up?

All On The Table participants will be invited to complete a short email survey about their conversations that will cover important issues and themes, big ideas, and what matters most to them. We want to hear from every voice!

    Ready to host?

A host commits to hosting a conversation between October 4 and December 9 over breakfast, lunch, dinner, a coffee break, or any time in between. The invitation list is up to you —friends, family, colleagues, neighbors — and the conversation can be hosted anywhere.

Before the conversation, make sure to download the Host Toolkit with everything you need, including a conversation guide and suggested conversation prompts.

Everyone is welcome and invited to serve as a host!

To host, please submit the form below. By doing so, you are agreeing to host and report back on your event.
