New creative Playground at Virginia Weaver Park

In November 2017, voters approved $15 million for development and improvement of parks and recreation facilities throughout the city, with a special emphasis on improving accessibility to parks and play structure for children of all abilities.

To achieve that goal, the creative play structure at Virginia Weaver Park will be replaced with a new creative playground with enhanced accessibility for children with special needs. The original playground was built by the community, and community will have the opportunity to participate in the design and construction of the new structure.

  • Will the playground be wooden? Will there be a shade structure for the entire playground?

MoSanchez asked about 1 year ago

Thank you for your question! The new playground will be made of 100% recycled plastic lumber that resembles wood.

The current design include shaded seating areas along the fence line that separates the two play areas. The Parks Department is raising funds through sponsorships of fence pickets and play features; funds raised will go toward additional shade structures.
