What are the elements of the Complete Streets Project?

Multimodal - Designed for users of all ages and all modes of transportation in a safe and comfortable fashion.

  1. Transit Equality Invites all users to enjoy the downtown environment in a courteous and safe way.
  2. Minimum Lane Widths Narrower roadways result in safer vehicle speeds and encourage the accommodation of pedestrians and bicyclists.
  3. Wide Sidewalks Accessible and unobstructed walkways encourage pedestrians to leave their vehicles behind and explore downtown on foot.
  4. Accessible Surfaces Slip-resistant and easily navigated materials in recognizable patterns contribute to welcoming environments for people of all ages and abilities.
  5. Trail Connectivity Linking to local trail networks increases transportation options.

Conscious - Efficient and easily maintained public spaces (including streets) encourage healthy and environmentally friendly communities.

  1. Ease of Maintenance Use quality durable materials. Planned maintenance for the upkeep of special features that enhance downtown life.
  2. Street Trees Shade and beauty contribute directly to the patron experience while providing refuge from the heat and bland environments.
  3. Greenscape Vegetation in key locations can soften built environments and contribute to improved air quality and pollution reduction.

Smart - Physical and digital information infrastructure provides real-time data and safety.

  1. Intelligent Sensors, Signals, and Cameras Manage traffic and events in real-time. Increases safety and efficiency. Data collection infrastructure is an essential component.
  2. Curb Side Management Stations Provide designated areas for drop-off and pick up for Transportation Network Companies as well as deliveries.
  3. Wayfinding and Signage Make direction-finding readily available. Signs and architectural elements contribute to local character and district branding.
  4. Electrical Vehicle Charging Stations New generations of electric and clean-fuel vehicles continue to increase in use. Charging stations provide a waypoint for local and distant travelers alike.

  • Update for Week of August 8

    * All parking on Broad St. has been completed

    * Enhanced textures that will be on the intersection and crosswalk at Belt Line will be poured by mid-week.

    * Excavation at the intersection of Cedar St. and Broad St. will begin this week to form the concrete for the enhanced textures on the walkway.

    * All underground irrigation should be completed by the end of the week allowing for the contractor to start the sidewalk paving process.

    * All of the main paving & parking on Cedar St. is complete, except for the transition by the railroad track.

    * Contractor will be demoing all concrete next to the quilt shop. They will then pout the parking back at the quilt shop first to provide access from Cedar and Broad for parking, then the parking will be available.

    * The irrigator is scheduled to mobilize this week to be installing piping in areas that they can access.

    * The crosswalks at the intersection of Broad St and Cedar St are being poured this week

    * Concrete crew will be on-site at the end of the week to begin forming the concrete on Cedar St.

    * Traffic patterns will remain the same as the previous week.

  • Update for Week of June 27

    * This week, concrete will be poured at Belt Line Rd & Broad this week and prepared for the stamping of the pavement.

    * Once the concrete is cured and stamped, then the construction will be flipped to Broad St and north of Cedar.

    * Forms and rebar will be installed on the south side of Cedar St.

    * Traffic patterns will remain the same as the previous week.

  • Update for Week of June 13

    * This week, the contractor will shut down the intersection at Broad & Cedar for all east & westbound traffic. There will still be southbound access from Belt Line to cross Cedar St.

    * Most of the southern lane of Belt Line will be shut down to allow for a majority of the stamped crosswalk work to take place. This will be a 24-hour closure.

    * While the intersection is being paved, the contractor will switch traffic to the new concrete poured on Cedar St to allow the beginning of the demo and excavation of the south side of Cedar.

    * All main paving on Cedar, including parking to be complete by 4th of July weekend.

    * There is important to have traffic incoming downtown from Cedar & Broad to help customers reach the businesses.

  • Update for Week of June 6

    * The main drive on Broad Street has been poured.

    * This week, the westbound drive lane of Cedar St. will be poured.

    * Crews will work on parking and drive approaches along the east side of Broad St. this week when Cedar St. pour is completed.

    * Traffic will continue to be interrupted the same as last week.

    * The main drive on Broad Street will be poured this week

    * Excavation crew is working on Cedar St. The concrete crew will move into Cedar St. as they finish Broad St.

    * Electrical crew has all pads and pull boxes in place beside the switch gears and transformer on Broad St.

    * Traffic will continue to be interrupted.

    Lots of great things happening with construction!

    AREA 1 (North side of Broad St): Area 1 has been fully excavated and demo'd. Subgrade will be placed this week, as well as the concrete crew will be mobilized to start setting forms. The estimated completion is the week of May 30th.

    AREA 2 (Southside of Broad St): Demo of this area will be done this week. Subgrade will be placed. As the concrete crew completes Area 1, they will move to Area 2. Estimated completion is by the end of the week of May 30th.

    * While work is being done, those parts of the streets will be closed to traffic.

    * Parking along the side of Jessica's Flowers & Gifts will not be available from now until the completion of the project.

  • Upgrade for Week of May 16

    * Oncor resumes work that will continue until the end of the month.

    * Construction contractor's excavation and demolition crew mobilize this week to begin demolition, install necessary sleeves, and begin subgrade work in the area.

    * Barricades will be set that will make Broad St. one way to the south from Belt Line. There will be no access to Broad St. from Cedar St.

  • Update for Week of May 9

    * Temporary barricades have been removed and erosion control is in place.

    * Franchise companies are beginning their work in the area.

    * At this time, there are no street closures scheduled.
