Sowing Seeds

Every day we are asking ourselves, “Is this real life?” Yup! It is! We are making the most of our time at home by working on some exciting DIY projects and, most importantly, our little garden. When we lived in McKinney, TX we were on the founding executive board of the McKinney Community Garden Association. We loved being a part of this project because we were able to serve our community by growing crops to share with the surrounding neighborhoods in need. We always harvested and saved our own seeds so that we could share them with friends and family and spread our love of gardening.

When this quarantine started, we took all of our seeds out and started assessing which ones we would like to plant in our backyard container garden. We found hundreds of seeds that we had saved from our time at the community garden, some of them dating all the way back to 2012! We were not sure that the seeds would be viable, but we took a chance and planted some of our favorites. Here we are one week later, and everything has sprouted! To say we are thrilled is an understatement!

Although the world has a cloud of darkness looming over us at the moment, this is a perfect example of how you can find the light. This project allowed us not only to reminisce about our time in the community garden years ago, but gave us the opportunity to see that the hard work we put into harvesting seeds back then is still paying off. It just goes to show you that sometimes the most amazing things can be found right in your own back yard!
