Senior Livability Study

Cedar Hill Mayor Stephen Mason has appointed a senior focus group to study programming and facilities needs of the senior citizen population. There has been ongoing discussion amongst the City Council, City staff, and the larger community about the growing needs and desires of the senior community for some time. In 2017, the City included funding in a bond program to address immediate needs at the existing senior center and to study the long-term needs of senior citizens in Cedar Hill in a more comprehensive way. More recently, that conversation has included discussion of a new senior facility that would support more and different programs and amenities for seniors.

Through their annual strategic planning retreat, the City Council has asked for an assessment of the facilities, programs, and amenities that meet the needs of seniors and impact their quality of life. To that end, over the course of the next 10-12 months, the City will engage a professional consultant who will perform a comprehensive assessment and develop a plan for current and future needs of seniors for both programming and facilities. The project will accommodate the City Council’s mandate to seek broad public input so that the plan reflects the diverse needs and desires of the Cedar Hill senior community.
