Waste Management Truck

Last year, the City made changes to bulk item collection as a part of broader efforts to promote cleaner streets and neighborhoods. Over the past year, we've heard feedback about those changes and have explored options to increase bulk collection frequency and improve the appearance of the city. Read the summary below and use the survey tool to share your thoughts on the new option for bulk item collection.

What is Bulk item collection?

Bulk items include residential trash that is too large for a container, such as appliances, furniture, or fence panels. It does not include brush/green waste, construction debris, or hazardous waste.

Current service level:

  • Bulk items are collected once per month from the front curb on the same week as brush pickup.
  • Items should be set out by Monday of the pickup week and will be collected by Friday.
  • Bulk items are limited to 4 cubic yards per collection (roughly equivalent to 2 couches or large appliances).
  • Residents may schedule one additional free collection per month through Waste Management.

Potential new bulk item collection service:

  • Bulk items would be collected once per week on the day of the resident's regular trash collection.
  • Items would be set out and collected on the same day.
  • Bulk items are limited to 2 cubic yards per collection (roughly equivalent to a couch or large appliance).
  • Service delivery would increase from once per month to four times per month,
  • This option would cost each single family residence an additional $2.34 per month (about $0.59 per week) because of the higher frequency of collection and increase in potential volume of collection.
  • The discounted senior rate would not be impacted by this change and would remain the same.

I do not think we need to have bulk pick up 4x a month. I think 1-2x a month would suffice. Also, better scheduling with Waste Management would help. Finally, I think educating or re-educating the public might be in order as well. Thanks for seeking the input of the citizens of Cedar Hill!

Every week is not necessary. I think bulk items should be collected twice a month.

I think one more week a month would be great. But I would like to see it negotiated for free in the next contract.

I am not in favor of this price raise to pick up bulk items however i am in favor of keeping High Point looking clean. I’d like to know if there is that much bulk set out to warrant a pick up weekly. I would like to discuss this further to make the best decision for our Community. Please contact me for discussion sbiut this subject.

I vote no. The current service would be adequate for me if Waste Management complied with their schedule. They have not in the past (it took three weeks and an angry phone call to get them to pick up).
I would like a closer location to haul bulk items to - that way my neighbors wouldn't have to drive by my discards.

I love the service - it keeps our neighborhoods clean and neat because what alternative do we have? If there were a local "dumpster" area where we could take our things it may be easier than adding to the current once a month service. I voted No because it was already included--once a month. I don't want to add on to the current service--I want them to continue the service.

No because in time just as you have other services will cut back and still collect the higher fees. Once a month bulk trash pickup is enough.

Even though I am a senior, I view this as another tax that is unnecessary. People can plan ahead. They do not need a weekly bulk pick up.

How much BULK TRASH can one put out 4x per week??
I’LL 2X per MONTH, 1X EVERY 2 WEEKS......

You DID NOT pick up my bulk trash in October then you send me a letter that I’m about to get a FINE for having trash on the curb. SO, if the new proposal helps, I’m all for it. BUT I DONT want to pay more for it. How about making a pick up 1x every 2 weeks. That will be, 2x per week
And should be enough. Just my 2 cents.

Highlands South in some areas, need a lot of help. I see large items on the curbside frequently, almost on a daily basis. I am not sure when they do the bulk item pick up but often things are sitting out for several weeks. This is a major issue in our city, Cedar Hill. I think the city needs to do more to help keep our neighborhoods clean, holding residents accountable.

Waste Management is not very dependable in the first place. Sometimes they pick up, sometimes they don't, regardless of any schedule. I would not want to pay extra for bulk collection every week because I rarely use. I'd rather have somewhere closer than Ft. Worth to dispose of items myself than pay extra for a service that is unreliable.

We need a location to dump bulk items. Code Enforcement needs to come out before bulk pick up and see that people are putting out bulk trash to early. The city needs to follow up with Waste Management for not picking up bulk when scheduled to. It’s not a matter of frequency, but education.

The problem I see every spring is the SMALL LIMIT that has been placed on the bulk trash, especially for tree trimmings and brush. Most people do not have brush put at the curb more than once or twice a year, so therefore ii should be all picked up, not just the partial limit with the rest being left to rot for another month or two - Most people will not want to pay extra for a service they already feel they pay enough for.
Cedar Hill has a lot of mature trees compared to other (newer) developments and this distinction is not being addressed other than by asking residents to pay more for something they already pay for all year around.

I have enjoyed using Cedar Hills bulk pick up with waste management. I have also utilized the second free scheduled bulk pick up that is available. I mostly use bulk pick up for removal of brush and large limbs fall from the mini trees that I have behind my house. If this were included In the proposed weekly bulk pick up then I would be willing to pay an additional $.60 a week. If you book brush pick up was not included then I would not be willing to pay the additional money.

Thank you for requesting our input on changing the bulk pickup service given that it would increase our monthly cost!

I do not like bulk items put on the street/curbside. It really hurts our curb appeal! Why can't it remain in the alley where trash belongs!? This is why I bought my house with an alley 19 years ago. The original bulk pick up was in the alley and worked fine. I would pay the additional monthly if the bulk items could be picked up weekly in the alley so our neighborhood streets don't look like the slums. My vote is let's make an effort to keep our neighborhood curb appeal clean and tidy!

I had a great experience! They were delayed by one day, but their scheduled day was a holiday. They did a great job picking up all of the debris. Very satisfied, but do not need it weekly.

We are happy with once per month, definitely not increased to 4 times per month. That's a huge increase and will cause unsightly trash in front of houses way too often. I see more brush sitting than bulky items.

Please please . When they replace the bin after emptying them can they please not place them in the middle of the drive way. 'Every Friday morning when I back out of the garage the bin is sitting smack dab in the middle of the drive way. Soooo irritating. I have to get out in the rain and move the bins.

Thank you
