Let's Talk Cedar Hill!

On July 9, 2022 the City Council and community members gathered to break ground on Cedar Hill's new, state of the art Library, Museum, &amp; Signature Park! This project will bring new opportunities for businesses, families, and the entire community. Construction is now underway with the Grand Opening set for April 6, 2024. #BuildingOurFutureBackground Information In November 2017, voters overwhelmingly approved a bond proposition to fund a new public library that would meet current and future needs for businesses and entrepreneurs, children and teens, and the broader community. The new library would be four times the size of the existing building and provide for new technology, flexible program space, and community meeting rooms.In 2018, the City Council appointed a Site Advisory Committee to evaluate potential locations for the new library. The committee recommended the library be built adjacent to the new signature park near Pioneer Trail and Uptown Blvd. The Library, Museum and Signature Park site highlights the natural beauty of Cedar Hill. The site backs up to Bentle Branch creek with unique topography and natural amenities. The project, located in the heart of the Midtown District, will serve as a catalyst for high-quality pedestrian-oriented development that offers unique shops, dining, cultural attractions, and living opportunities.

New Library, Museum & Signature Park

In November 2017, voters approved $20 million in general obligation bonds for a new public library. The project will replace the current buillding with a facility designed to meet current and future needs, based on Texas Public Library Standards. The new library will provide for technological enhancements, flexible program space, and community meeting rooms that are not feasible in the existing structure.The new library will be located adjacent to a new signature park with features and amenities for residents and visitors. On May 14, 2022, the City Council will break ground on the new community pool - the Lagoon at Virginia Weaver Park! Join us from noon to 2 p.m. at Virginia Weaver Park (631 Somerset) for free food, family activities, and live entertainment.The new pool will feature almost 10,000 square feet of water surface, including a zero-depth entry pool, a separate lap swim pool, a lazy river and three-turn slide, and a splash feature. Background Information In November 2017, voters approved funding to build a new outdoor pool to replace the existing pool at Crawford Park. In 2018, the City began the design process for the pool, which included site analysis and selection. The site analysis assesses environmental conditions, potential impacts to existing programs and amenities, and other site-specific considerations. Based on this analysis and input from the City Council, Parks Board, and citizens, Virginia Weaver Park was selected as the location for the new pool.The City received a grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife for $750,000 towards the construction cost.
